There is lots about Van Gogh in this well-illustrated book, but it is mostly about the place, the Asylum.Vincent's comings and goings to and from the Asylum; his fellow-patients, the landscapes and other subjects of his painting around the Asylum, his rooms in the Asylum, his views from the Asylum, the nature of his treatment and how he was treated at the Asylum. As such, it is a marvelous addition to the copious Van Gogh literature. I found it to be engagingly personal and entertaining, and I think other VanGoghphiles will too.

Although I’ve read MANY books on Van Gogh, I always learn something new in a Martin Bailey book.

I loved this book! It is an in-depth look at Van Gogh and his time in Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. I highly recommend this book. The color reproductions of the paintings Van Gogh completed during his stay are first rate!

It is great to know his environment while in health facility.
