I was really looking forward to this book. The fact that Ms. Potter was continuing the series was great news, but I found myself somewhat disaffected. The first 5 books were pretty coherent, except for some glaring translation problems. In spite of those I loved the story, the characters and most everything about the books. Book 6 starts by changing the ending of book 5. I found this quite jarring. Lily, Jess and the rest of the characters are back which is the good news. It also takes us to the home island of the Virman's and gives a more detailed account of their way of life, their God's and families. The book sets up the upcoming stories, but ends abruptly, right when things are getting interesting. I'll read the next book and hope things work out and the story smoothes out.
While the style and translation had improved over the last few books to where the books now have better production values, the story structure has suddenly deteriorated such that this book has no sense of closure. It reads much like the first half or maybe two-thirds of a book. I hope the author has not adopted an end-halfway strategy to sell more books. If she has, I will simply stop halfway through the next book when some resolution of current problems occurs.
Good news on translation and editing, much improved from book five. This book has two distinct storylines. The book bounces back and forth in a somewhat chronological fashion. Neither storyline resolves to a conclusion. I do like the main character story, just wish it would have been given more focus.
This book is a bit different, it was separated into multiple branches. At time it get choppy but the storyline continues, although some might not like the multiple thread going all over the place, but eith the characters that the first 5 books you grew to love it's a little thing to put up with! Same exciting swashbuckling adventure, with multiple love interest. Good book you won't be disappointed.
I am enjoying this series, especially since I don't normally read this type of genre. I am half way through the sixth book, and agree with the other reviewers that the story line keeps jumping around. It seems like a lot of authors do that now, and I find it takes away from the flow of the writing. I hope the author reads these reviews, both good and bad for ways to improve her books. I do have one BIG complaint. An author of another great series repeatedly used this same expression. PLEASE STOP having all the characters SNORTING. It sounds so unbecoming for a Count, Countess, King etc. And gross!!! Thanks!
